A Slap on Nigerian's face! INEC would not use electronic register ...it’s illegal

The Independent National Electoral Commission will not use the electronic voter register for the conduct of the April 2011 elections under the excuse that it is breaking the Law (One electoral Act 2010).

I knew this was coming soon. See PDP in action. I knew this Prof. Jega is going to conduct Jaga Jaga elections for us. After budgeting over N87Billion to get e-registers. Thank God I did not go and waste my time registering for any stupid elections if not it would be paining me now.

Like I always say it's only God that would help this country.

The tale of the Confused Driver on the Nigerian (Lagos) Highway

1. When in doubt, accelerate!

2. Be prepared to ram anything stopping you wearing uniform in Lagos (police, traffic warden, FRSC, Kai brigade, fire brigade, VIO, Lastma, Lamata, Laswa, even Lawma sef).

3. If you get caught by any chance, DO NOT allow them to enter your car, if they happen to get in DO NOT drive from that spot (veer off traffic & settle 5hun), and if they don't agree, form calling your uncle who is in the army (believe me it always works), never follow them to ANY sort of office except you want to pay times 10.

4. Never give police or VIO your original particulars (whether expired or up to    date)

5. Danfo drivers believe they are immortal. NEVER yield to the temptation to teach them otherwise.

Bash Ali trapped in Libya ...cries out for help

Boxer and boxing promoter, Bash Ali, is trapped in Tripoli, Libya, a country that has been witnessing political problems in the past one week.

The Libyans are protesting against the 41-year rule of their leader Muammar Gaddafi and the high rate of corruption, poverty and unemployment in the country.

Over 1,000 people have been reported killed in the country in the past few days and sadly enough Bash Ali has been caught in the uprising in the country.

In an email sent to Punch's correspondent, the boxer revealed that he traveled to Libya to meet with Gaddafi for the sponsorship of his proposed historic bout that has not been on the card for the past six years.

When punch's correspondent spoke with him on the telephone, Ali said he traveled to the troubled country because help was not forthcoming in Nigeria for the fight.

He said, “I am in trouble here and I only hope and pray I will be out of here to tell my story. I hear gunshots in my hotel room and it is terrible that I find myself in this situation".

Tinubu urges Fashola to sack striking doctors

Former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday advised his successor, Governor Babatunde Fashola, to sack striking medical doctors.

The Medical Guild, the umbrella body of doctors working in the state’s hospitals, went on strike on February 5 over the refusal of the Fashola administration to implement the Consolidated Medical Salary Scale.

But Tinubu told a gathering of Christian leaders in Lagos that the strike was motivated by unnamed politicians. Tinubu also stated that it would be foolhardy for the state government to yield to the demands of the doctors, noting that instead, it should employ new doctors.

Visa fees: US Embassy appoints GT Bank

The United States Embassy, Abuja on Wednesday said it had changed its $140 fee collection point in Nigeria for US non-immigrant visas from United Bank of Africa to Guaranty Trust Bank.

The embassy said in a statement that the new arrangement would take effect from March 1, adding that all persons wishing to make new interview appointments for non-immigrant visas would need to pay the fee at a branch of GT Bank.

“However, applicants who have already scheduled appointments for March or April with the US Embassy in Abuja or the US Consulate General in Lagos must pay the $140 visa application fee at a UBA branch no later than February 28, 2011. Visa fee collection services will no longer be available at UBA after February 28, 2011.

“To avoid any confusion or delays on the date of the previously scheduled interview, applicants should make every effort to pay the visa fee at a UBA branch by February 28, 2011. The shift to GT Bank is the result of an ongoing realignment of contracts between the US Department of State and the companies which provide visa appointment services.

Senate prescribes death for terrorists

The Senate yesterday passed into law an anti-terrorism bill which provides that those found guilty of terrorism be sentenced to death. With capital punishment becoming largely unpopular around the world, the punishment prescribed for the crime is likely to generate a lot of controversy, analysts say. President Goodluck Jonathan had on Wednesday sent a letter to the leadership of the National Assembly urging members to pass both the anti-terrorism and money laundering bills. It was the third time the president was writing the assembly over the bills. The version passed by the Senate will be harmonised with that being debated in the House of Representatives and will only become an act of the National Assembly after it has been signed by the president.

Members at the House of Reps are midway into the third reading of the bill and are likely to pass it next week. Considering the interest of the presidency in ensuring a quick passage, a clean copy of the law may be signed by Mr Jonathan before the expiration of the current term.

Currently, Charles Okah, Obi Nwabueze, Edmund Ebiware, and Tiemkemfa Francis Osvwo are facing terrorism charges following the October 1 bomb blasts in Abuja.
