Pregnant British Woman Jailed for Sham marriage to Nigerian Man

Czech-born Mirgova, 26, was arrested five months ago after she wed a Nigerian man for cash so he could stay in Britain.

Shortly afterwards she became pregnant by her long-term boyfriend.

At Burnley Crown Court, Alan Wolstenholme, defending, argued she should get a suspended term because of her condition.

But Judge Lunt told Mirgova she would not escape a prison sentence just because she had opted to become pregnant.

She said: ‘You have now chosen to become pregnant a third time. It would seem this child was conceived around the time of your arrest or soon thereafter.

‘You clearly understand that without women like you these sham marriages could not take place. You played a vital part in this scheme.’

Jailing her for 16 months, the judge said: ‘There is nothing I have seen in the pre-sentence report or in the medical evidence before me which gives rise to circumstances in which I should suspend the sentence of imprisonment.’

Lead City University Arrest's Four Armed Students

Before you start reading whatever punch has reported, TRENDS by Bukchris does not agree with the story. The students arrested did not start the unrest because they were on probation, it's because the university has not been very honest with them about their course which is not yet accredited. The school may have found out that they were on probation after the arrest but their motive was to protest the non-accreditation of their course.  So Lead City University Authorities please learn to say the truth. It won't kill....
Authorities of the Lead City University, Ibadan have arrested four students in connection with the recent protest on the school campus.

The affected students, according to a copy of the institution’s weekly bulletin obtained by THE PUNCH on Friday, were allegedly found with ‘dangerous weapons’ at the time of their arrest and were immediately handed over to the police for prosecution.

The school authorities attributed the unrest in the school to some students on probation. It also said an unnamed parent came to the last session of the university’s Parents Forum with a double-barrelled gun hidden in his car.

The bulletin reads, “The university management is aware of the activities of some students who were on probation list before now to cause disaffection among other serious students in the university.

“Their intention is to instigate other students to go on rampage and disrupt academic activities.

“It is also disheartening to discover that a parent whose ward is on probation came to the last Parents Forum with a double barrelled gun hidden in his jeep and he was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police. His motive is still under investigation.”

The university urged all bonafide students to be vigilant and avoid being used for criminal activities.

Our correspondent learnt that The institution’s leadership had asked members of staff and students to always display their identity cards conspicuously to avoid embarrassment from security operatives. Those without ID cards will not be allowed into the university premises from Monday, our correspondent also learnt.

Some students had last Monday protested on the campus over the face-off between the university and the National Universities Commission. They destroyed school property while some students sustained varying degrees of injury as they tried to flee to safety.

The NUC had claimed that the university had no accreditation for its Law, Nursing and Postgraduate programmes and directed the school to discontinue the programmes forthwith.

Mother admits killing teens for being 'mouthy'

A mother in Florida, USA has admitted in detail to killing her two teen-aged children, police said.

Police checking on the family at the request of a relative found Julie K. Schenecker, 50, on the back porch of her home Friday morning, dressed in blood-covered clothing, according to a police statement.

They found her son, Beau Powers Schenecker, 13, dead in the family's SUV, which had been parked in the garage, the statement said. Calyx Powers Schenecker, 16, was in an upstairs bedroom, also dead.

"She did tell us that they talked back, that they were mouthy," Tampa police  had said. "But I don't think that will ever serve as an explanation to the rest of us of how you could take a child's life."

The woman shot her son as she drove him to soccer practice and returned home to shoot her daughter as she studied on her computer, citing investigators.

Police were called to the house after Schenecker's mother called to express concern about her daughter's welfare, saying she was depressed, the police statement said.

Schenecker was initially booked into jail, but was transferred to Tampa General Hospital for treatment of an existing medical condition, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Hundreds of people attended a candlelight vigil on Friday night in memory of the siblings.

"It's just sad that his mom did this to him and his sister because he didn't deserve this," one of the mourners, Hailey Johnson, said "He was the sweetest kid ever."

Demi Lovato to leave rehab next week

Eighteen year old singer-and-actress, Demi Lovato - who is currently being treated for “emotional and physical issues” at an unnamed clinic in the US state of Illinois - is reportedly set to leave the facility at the beginning of February after successfully working on her issues.

A source told gossip blogger Zach Taylor: “Demi has been making big changes in her life, and is excited about what the future holds. She will be getting out very soon.”

Demi entered rehab voluntarily at the beginning of November last year after an incident in which she punched a backing dancer, but the ‘Sonny with a Chance’ star is said to be determined to undertake a solo tour this year.

A new song by the Disney actress called ‘Shut Up and Love Me’ has also leaked online, leading fans to believe she is ready to step back into the spotlight.

Earlier this month, representatives for Demi reached a settlement with dancer Alex Welch, who allegedly received a black eye when the star attacked her on a plane after believing Alex had complained to management about her.

Police arrest landlord for killing tenant over N300 electricity bill

TRENDS by Bukchris gathered that a N300 electricity bill was the cause of a disagreement between the two men and this later led to Akande’s death.

It was learnt that trouble started when the suspect accosted his tenant on his way to work on Monday, demanding the payment of his electricity bill.

Akande’s plea that he should be allowed to pay the bill at the end of the month because he was a salary earner reportedly didn’t go down well with his landlord.

Disturbed by the ensuing argument, the deceased’s wife was said to have intervened by giving the landlord N200, promising to pay the balance of N100 in the evening.

But not ready to allow the issue go that way, Isiaka reportedly slapped his tenant on his cheek and later hit him on his chest.

Eyewitnesses said that Akande collapsed immediately and all efforts to revive him didn’t yield any positive result.

Neighbors and sympathisers then rushed him to a nearby hospital, where the doctor on duty confirmed him dead.

His corpse was later deposited at the mortuary of the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

Policemen from Moniya Police Station, who were drafted to the scene based on a report made by a resident of the area, later arrested the suspect.

Fornication: Suspect gets 100 lashes

A 28-year-old man, Sama’ila Garba, of Sabuwar Kofa Quarter in Katsina on Thursday bagged a one-year jail term and 100 strokes of the cane for fornication.

The police had arraigned Garba before Sharia Court I, Katsina for the alleged offence, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. The arraignment of the accused followed a complaint lodged by Hussaina Isa, also of Sabuwar Kofa Quarter on November 12, 2010, alleging that Garba impregnated her.

The prosecutor, Mr. Abubakar Mamman, said the complainant also alleged that the accused lured her to have sex with him, which resulted in pregnancy and subsequent delivery of a baby. However, the accused pleaded ‘guilty’ and accepted that he had an affair with the girl.

Delivering judgment, Khadi Mustapha Saulawa said the court had found Garba guilty of committing fornication through his confessional statement. Saulawa said that based on Qur’anic injunctions and the sharia code, the court sentenced him to one year imprisonment without an option of fine and 100 strokes of the cane.

The khadi, however, ordered that the convict be given 20 strokes of the cane instantly, while the remaining 80 be administered while in prison.

This, he said, was because the convict might not withstand all the lashes at a go and directed the prison officials to complete the strokes.

Canadian Woman Is World's First Beatles Graduate

Finally, there is a Beatles fan with a degree to prove it. Fifty-three-year-old Mary-Lu Zahalan-Kennedy has become the first graduate ofLiverpool Hope University's MA in the Beatles. This new master of Fab Fourology studied the Beatles' compositions, sound and impact on pop culture.

"It's absolutely academic," Zahalan-Kennedy told the BBC. "It was an examination of how the Beatles came to be. What the political and social climate was and the cultural aspects that helped to facilitate an environment where the Beatles could happen."

In 2009, the Liverpool university launched the programme The Beatles, Popular Music and Society, which examines the "significance of the music of the Beatles in the construction of identities, audiences, ethnicities and industries, and localities". Zahalan-Kennedy was one of 12 full-time students; she graduated yesterday.

"I am so proud of my achievement," she said. "The course was challenging, enjoyable and it provided a great insight into the impact the Beatles had and still have to this day across all aspects of life." Dr Michael Brocken, founder of the Beatles MA course, said: "Mary-Lu now joins an internationally recognised group of scholars of popular music studies."

Besides her recent achievement, Zahalan-Kennedy won a Juno award in 1983 for Canada's most promising female vocalist. She has released three albums and teaches at Ontario's Sheridan College

Crescent University Suspends Entire Student Body

Yesterday 24th January 2011 was hell in Crescent University as studnts rioted to demonstrate their grievances with the school which has taken for granted over the years in terms of provision of basic amenities such as good food, water, electricity amongst others.

The riot was sequel to the action of the management barging into two hostels to seize foodstuff and provisions which the students depends on as an alternative for survival. Passing an indirect order that all foodstuff and provisions must be bought at the school's cafeteria and supermarket which has experienced fall in sales over the semester.

This action provoked the students anger and felt they have had enough of their school bulling them, prompting them to stage a riot, thereby vandalizing school properties.

As at today, news reaching TRENDS by Bukchris has it that the management has announced a week closure of the university sending all students on suspension to resume on the 3rd of February 2011 and thereby postponing exams which was scheduled to start 31st of Jan 2011 to the 7th of February 2011.

Lead City University Deploys Anti Riot Squad at School's main Entrance

Anti-Riot Squad at Main Campus Entrance
Monday the 24th of January 2010 was like a normal day in Lead City University, Ibadan until an angry mob of students of the affected faculty of Law and other unaccredited courses in the university staged a riot in the university.

The angry student carrying broken bottles, and other weapons vandalised some university structures and brought an end to all lectures of the day. Lecturers were seen flying windows for their dear lives while students were seen running helter-skelter.

The management somehow managed to gain control of the incident and has since postponed the first semester exam by two weeks which was early scheduled to start on the 31st of January 2010.

Following the mass protest, the university has brought in some anti-riot squad and has positioned them at the main entrance of the university campus to search everyone who comes into the university.

Carpenter jailed for releasing sperm on woman’s body

A 25-year-old carpenter, Godwin Aboye, has been sentenced to 10 days imprisonment by an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court for releasing his semen on Mrs. Simi Maikaura in a queue at Karu Village, Abuja.

The police prosecutor, Corporal Francis Odofia, told the court that the man, on January 19, while in a queue at ECWA Church for voter registration, indecently brought out his reproductive organ and pressed it against the complainant’s buttocks.

“You indecently pressed your penis against her buttocks and in the process released your sperm and stained her dress without her consent,’’ Odofia said.

According to the prosecutor, the act of gross indecency committed by the Aboye contravened Section 285 of the Penal Code Law. The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the convict pleaded guilty and begged for leniency before the court.

Delivering judgement, Senior Magistrate Sharon Ishaya convicted Aboye, pursuant to Section 157(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code.

She sentenced him to 10 days imprisonment with an option of N1, 000 fine.

Meet 5yrs old Dyson Kilodavis, a Self Proclaimed "Princess Boy"

Cheryl Kilodavis was stunned when her young son first insisted on wearing a dress. Now she has published a book about him, in a bid to teach critics to accept his differences.

For most young boys, dressing up as Spiderman and Buzz Lightyear would be the stuff of fancy dress fantasy.

But not so for five-year-old Dyson Kilodavis, from Seattle, who insists on wearing dresses worthy of a Disney princess.

Naturally, his parents, Cheryl and Dean Kilodavis, were concerned that this could make him an easy target for bullies, and when the tendency first emerged, his mother tried to deter him.

But after several unsuccessful attempts, she decided that it was not her son, but his critics that needed to change, and she has now published a picture book about how there is nothing wrong with the way he chooses to dress.

Kim Kardashian blames MTV for teen pregnancies

Kim Kardashian is lashing out at MTV following reports that 90 girls at a Memphis high school became teen moms over the past year.

"I find it so sad and disturbing," the 30-year-old reality star writes on her blog. "It seems that shows like 'Teen Mom' are all of a sudden making teen pregnancy seem cool in the eyes of young girls. The kids from these shows are all over the news, even on the covers of magazines, and have become almost like celebrities, but girls, these are not people you should idolize!"

Kardashian goes on to say she would never have dreamed of taking on such a huge responsibility at that age.

"When I think back to when I was 16, there is no way I would even have considered having a baby. That thought wouldn’t even have entered my head," she writes. "Having a baby is one of the biggest and most life-changing decisions a person can make, and while I’m not saying that no teen is in the position to raise a child, having a baby so young shouldn’t be seen as the trendy thing to do."

The brunette beauty concludes by urging girls to think carefully before making such a monumental decision.

"Talk to your family, friends, teachers," she says, "and most of all, be careful."

Meanwhile, "Teen Mom" star Amber Portwood has a few words of her own for Kardashian.

"Last time I checked, Kim Kardashian had a sex tape floating around on the internet and I'm pretty sure she made a lot of money off of it," Portwood told E!. "She made a sex tape when she was younger and she wants to bash the girls on 'Teen Mom'?"

Portwood, who is mom to two-year-old Leah added, "If you read the articles about the show, they do nothing but talk about how the show reveals how hard it is for all of us. It doesn't glamorize anything! It shows the heartache we've all gone through," Portwood told E!. "We may be 'celebrities' because our face is out there, but it's only because we've done some bad things. That's not glamorous."
