Woman remanded in Kirikiri for Murder of Grandmother
Forty-nine year-old Josephine Jacob, who allegedly strangled a neighbour who happens to be my grandmother, to death, was, on Tuesday, remanded in prison by an Ebute-Metta Magistrate Court in Lagos.
Magistrate Joy Ugboimoko said that the court lacked jurisdiction to try the case, and ordered that the defendant remain at the Kirikiri Prisons pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The police prosecutor, Babaji Ishiaku, earlier told the court that the accused strangled the deceased, Margaret Safi, 58, who was also her church member, following a quarrel between them.
He said that the incident occurred on August 19, 2012 at the deceased’s residence on Omolore Street in Shasha area of the state.
Josephine is facing a one-count charge of murder, and her offence was said to have contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The magistrate adjourned the case to October 3, pending the DPP’s advice.
I hope the woman gets a painful life sentence with harsh conditions and no possible chances of parole.

16yr Old boy Beaten to Death by Foster Mother for Stealing N50 (£0.2)
The woman was stripped naked and made to carry the corpse of the dead boy around her area. The sad incident happened on Sunday on Amosu Street, Ijegun, in Lagos.
The woman known locally as Iya Anu beat her 16 year old foster son, Seubow, to death for allegedly stealing N50. Seybow was Iya Anu's husband's nephew.
According to neighbours, trouble started after Seubow lost the N1,000 given to him by Iya Anu to run an errand for her some days back. Angered by the loss which she claimed was theft, the woman refused to feed Seubow for over four days. When the teenager couldn't take the hunger anymore, he sneaked out to buy gala one night. When Iya Anu found out, she accused him of stealing her N50 and beat him up, using a rod. She battered him for days until he gave the ghost on Sunday afternoon.
After his death, neighbours rounded the woman up and made her carry the boy's corpse to the police station. If only the neighbours had intervened earlier. This wasn't the first she would batter him. The photo on the right was taken in June at a police station where Iya Anu was taken to after seriously battering the boy. No one came to his rescue and he ended up dying in her hands. Sad!

DAME was in town today; Bings Lagos to a Stand Still
I heard Madam Jonathan was in town today and her presence brought Lagos to a complete stand still for several hours. Like seriously what manner of democracy is this? Last year Oga Jonathan came to town and all the major roads in Lagos were blocked. I think this is totally unfair. and a form of oppression. Popular and celebrity blogger Linda Ikeji was caught up in the mess our dear first Lady caused. Read her experience below:
I left my house around 11am this morning to attend the Google+ event at Get Arena in Victoria Island. By 1.15pm I was done. I got into my car to head back home...to attend to blogging matters...but guess what people? Five hours later I was still in traffic in Victoria Island. I swear to you I'm not kidding. I left Get Arena parking lot by past one, and by 6pm, I was still on Ozumba Mbadiwe street, which ordinarily from Get Arena shouldn't take more than 15 minutes.
