Court gives Olurin Ogun PDP ticket

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday has declared Tunji Olurin the People’s Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate for Ogun State. Justice Abdul Kafarati’s ruling ends the crisis over who will be the governorship candidate of the party at the April elections after two candidates were fielded by two separate factions.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s faction, which fielded Mr. Olurin, secured a court injunction restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the PDP from accepting or acting upon the results of the primaries conducted by the Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel-led faction pending the determination of a substantive suit filed by the former on the matter.

Isiaka Gboyega emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the faction led by the incumbent governor. The two groups had conducted parallel gubernatorial and National Assembly primaries that led to the emergence of different winners. However, lawyers for Mr. Daniel’s camp have filed a notice of appeal.
