A 25 year-old man, Mannir Goma has been arrested by the police in Katsina State for allegedly raping an 80 year-old woman in Matazu Local Government Area of the state. Parading the suspect on Monday, the state's Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed said Goma was arrested in Yelwa village shortly after he committed the crime.
Mohammed said the victim sustained severe injuries on her private part, and that she is now receiving treatment at the Matazu health centre. He further said that 15 other criminals, including armed robbery suspects were arrested by the police in the state last month.
The commissioner added that nine out of the 15 were arrested in Kankara, Batagarawa, Katsina, Musawa and Malumfashi Local Government Areas of the state. He said police recovered N490,000, an AK 47 gun, Dane guns, five locally made pistols, rounds of ammunitions, a broken safe, army uniforms and charms from the suspects. Mohammed said four others were arrested in Daura for allegedly breaking into shops and carting away four bags of cement, a bundle of roofing sheets and electronics.
The commissioner said among those in their custody, is a woman, who was arrested in Runka village in Safana Local Government area in connection with the murder of a police constable. He said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as police conclude investigation.
