In a letter signed by the NUC’s director of Quality Assurance, Professor C.F. Mafianu, and addressed to the university authorities, the NUC stated that the action is to take effect from the 18th of September 2012.

It was also stated in the letter that the regulatory body will not hesitate to impose appropriate sanctions should there be further observed breaches.

Th affected universities were Madonna University, Okija; Achiever’s University, Owo; and Tansian University, Umunya.

Lead City University and Others Overcome's at National Assembly

The National University Commission (NUC) has claimed that the seven suspended private institutions will continue operations, but have been banned from admitting new students.
The deputy executive secretary of the commission, Mr Akinbode Agbaoye made the clarification in reaction to a petition filed by Lead City University at the hearing called by House of Representatives on Wednesday.
At the resumed public hearing of the House Committee on Public Petitions, Mr Agbaoye explained that the NUC has cleared two of the suspended universities after they produced the required documents.
He added that the NUC will embark on forensic audit of the remaining institutions on the 19th of July.

Ignore NUC, Lead City University Tells Students & parents.

The authorities of the Lead City University, Ibadan have asked students of the school, especially Law students and their parents not to be bothered over media threat by the National Universities Commission to close down the programme at the university.

Also, a graduate of the university, Rev. Segun Alli, has sought a court order of committal for the Executive Secretary, NUC, Prof. Julius Okojie, and the commission’s Director of Academic Standards, Prof. Alhassan Bichi, for allegedly making statements on the institution which were capable of bringing the administration of Law in the country to disrepute.

In a statement by the institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs and Communication, Dr. Ayobami Owolabi, the university urged stakeholders to disregard the “inciteful announcement”, saying it was yet to receive an official correspondence on the issue from the NUC.

He advised appropriate authorities to caution Okojie in the interest of the stability and progress of the country’s education system.

In his application, Alli also sought an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from closing down the Law programme of the university pending the determination of a substantive suit on the issue.

Alli claimed that Okojie made a television announcement, stating that the commission had closed down the law programme of the university, whereas it was still a subject of an ongoing suit.

He added that Okojie made similar pronouncements in a national newspaper on January, 11.

As for Bichi, Alli claimed that the professor addressed a press conference where he made pronouncements on the matter of the suit.

Bichi’s statement, he said, was prejudicial to the adjudication of this case. He also claimed that the pronouncements were capable of bringing the administration of the law into disrepute and impugn on the integrity of the court.

In the affidavit filed in support of his claims, Alli stated that the pronouncements made by the defendants were prejudicial on the subject matter before the court, adding that they were capable of interfering with the judicial process in the case.

THE RUMOURED RIFT BETWEEN PROF. JIDE OWOEYE [CHAIRMAN GOVERNING COUNCIL LCU] AND PROF. OKOGIE [NUC SECRETARY]

Prof. Owoeye

Prof. Okogie
In a bid to really find out why the National University Commission (NUC) has asked the management of Lead City University to shut down her Law Program and Post Graduate School, we at TRENDS by Bukchris carried out our investigations and we were somehow able to get some tangible information from one of Lead City’s University top staff who pleaded to remain anonymous.

Our finding gathered that Prof. Jide Owoeye and Prof. Okogie used to be best of friends once upon a time. As at the take off of the university in 2005, Prof. Okogie had proposed to Prof. Owoeye to start a Faculty of Agricultural Science and also demanded that all fees gotten from the Faculty be given to him as a consolation price. Prof. Jide Owoeye bluntly refused the proposal and that was where the beef started between both parties.

As NUC’s secretary, Prof. Okogie was alleged to have promised to frustrate the University Management if his demand was not met by Prof. Owoeye. This he has successfully done in terms of accreditation of the Law program and Post Graduate School and probably some other university programs.

Speaking of accreditation, the university reported that in 2008, a team from NUC visited the university to carry out the process of accreditation on her Law program. The team marked the university high and approved the Law program only to with draw their decision based on the fact that members of the Council of Legal Education did not constitute the team that has visited from NUC.
