Federal High Court, Ibadan Quashes NUC’s Verdict on Lead City University’s Law Programme.
The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan today, 26th of July, 2011 and presided by Honourable Justice J.E. Shakarho has annulled the decision of the National Universities Commission which purportedly declared illegal the Faculty of Law of Lead City University Ibadan.
Delivering his judgment in Suit No. FHC/IB/CS/50/2009, which was instituted by a 1st Class graduate of the Faculty of Law of the University, Revd. Segun Ademola Alli, the judge described the National Universities Commission’s action as a constructive malice against the University and thereby made the following orders:
1. That the National Universities Commission does not have any power to declare the already approved and accredited Faculty of Law of Lead City University illegal and unaccredited.
2. That the National Universities Commission should immediately release the Faculty of Law accreditation report of 2008 which was rendered invalid because Council of Legal Educational was not part of the exercise.
3. That the Council of Legal Education should immediately visit Lead City University and mobilize the Law graduates of Lead City University to the Law School within 60 days with effect from today the 26th day of July, 2011.
4. That the National Universities Commission does not need the support of and does not need to co-opt another statutory body like Council of Legal Education before it can accredit the Faculty of Law.
5. That the Lead City University Faculty of Law is hereby declared legal, recognized and accredited.
