The Action Congress of Nigeria {ACN}, Ogun State Chapter, yesterday finally announced its governorship candidate after long anxiety from members of the party. The flagbearer is Ibikunle Amosun, a former senator of the Peoples Democratic Party {PDP} in 2003 and governorship candidate of All Nigeria Peoples Party {ANPP} in the 2007 governorship elections who defected to Action Congress of Nigeria {ACN} early last year.
He was presented by the party State Chairman, Tajudeen Bello at the Action Congress of Nigeria {ACN} secretariat located on Moshood Abiola way, Abeokuta to thousands of party members who besieged the venue.
‘I accept my nomination as the Ogun State governorship candidate of our great party, Action Congress of Nigeria, in 2011. The nomination comes with challenges and I am fully aware of the enormity of the challenges of rebuilding a state that has not only lost its past glory, but has become the butt of uncomplimentary if not cruel jokes,' Mr Amosun said.
Noting that the task at hand is beyond what an individual can achieve alone, he said he will require the support and cooperation of all the leaders, fellow contestants, and other candidates of the party at different levels.
Mr Amosun said the successful completion of the process leading to his nomination represents a major milestone in his mission to provide purposeful leadership and a new lease of life to the people.
‘No matter how long darkness is, there will be a new dawn. A new dawn is at hand in Ogun State. We therefore serve notice to the incumbent administration of questionable mandate and the PDP, that our party, ACN is resolved to galvanise our people and stakeholders to rescue the state from their predatory hold,' he said.
He called on residents to participate at the voters' registration and keep their voters cards, 'the main weapon to usher the ACN government in the state and in the country'.
‘Equally important, we should troop out to vote ACN in the general election and stay at the polling unit to ensure that the results announced reflect our choice. Let me hasten to add that this time we will make the best endeavours to ensure that the votes of the good people in Ogun State will count and be counted,' he said
