A heart for Christmas

Who read my post about the "Miss Omolewa Foundation" a charity organisation started by Ayotunde Fabamwo about two years ago. Just over one month ago, in the ancient city of Akure, Moyin's life was changed forever. This small town girl packed her bags and made her way to her new home base in Akure. What followed was a non stop fast paced calender of activities which Moyin had only imagined. It will be a life changing journey for Moyin.

This Christmas, she is working with Kids2teens foundation, organizing a party on the 21st of Dec at Kids2teens resource center Ijapo Akure, for motherless babies, orphans and vulnerable kids.

Fuji superstar Ayinde Barrister dies at 62

Nigerian Fuji superstar Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Balogun populally known as Ayinde Barrister is dead. He died this morning at St. Mary's hospital London. He was just 62years old. 

The late musician is one of the founders of the popular Yoruba music Fuji and had a large folllowership in his days.

May his soul rest in peace. Amen

NASS JUMBO PAY: Indian Lawmaker must work @ least 49yrs to earn the annual salary of one Nigerian lawmaker

An Indian lawmaker needs to work for at least 49 years to earn the annual salary of a Nigerian senator. A lawmaker in India earns $23,988 (N3.7m) per annum while a Nigerian senator earns $1.2m (N182m) per annum. A monthly breakdown shows that while an Indian lawmaker earns $1,999 (N305, 058) per month, a Nigerian senator earns $ 99,167(N15.18m) per month.

The Indian lawmakers‘ pay is also a far cry from what members of the House of Representatives earn. A federal lawmaker in India will work for at least 34 years to earn the N127m annual salary of a member of the House of Representatives.

In fact, the pay of Indian lawmakers was only increased to the current level in August, after the legislators complained that their earlier monthly pay of $345 (N52, 648) was inadequate.

India and Nigeria are both classified as 3rd world nations and the annoying fact is that the turn out of India is far more than the turn out of Nigeria.

Second US carrier, United Airlines, arrives at Lagos Airport

The inaugural flight of another United States‘ carrier, United Airlines, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at about 7pm on Monday. 

The 11-hour flight from Washington DC made the United Airlines the second American carrier to operate scheduled flight into Nigeria. 

Delta Airlines had in December 2008 started scheduled flight into Nigeria. 

The flight had on board dignitaries from the US, including Nigeria‘s Ambassador to US, Mr. Adebowale Adefuye. 

The special flight was received by US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Joseph Stafford; Nigeria‘s Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Fidelia Njeze; Director-General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Dr. Harold Demuren; and the Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Mr. Richard Aisuebeogun, among others.

Speaking at a brief reception, the minister said that the new flight would boost the trade relations between the US and Nigeria.

Lead City University Chapel Presents: The Minstrel

On the 9th of December 2010, Lead City University Chapel organised a gospel music contest themed "The Minstrel" The competition was open to all members of the University chapel. Sixteen contestants, contested to become the minstrel. The competition had three stages. The first stage had all the contestants come up to present their first song. The Audience was the judge for this stage. The second stage had only six contestant who had the highest vote of the audience. The judges and faculty presided over the top three who would move to the final stage. The third stage was tough, with only three contestant, the judges had to deliberate with the audience before the winner could emerge.

The Event was anchored by Anu Adelakun and Extreme. Deola, contestant number 4 won the talent hunt and walked away with a whooping sum of N100,000 and a Record Label Deal.
