WalMart to Open in Nigeria
Walmart, America's foremost low-price merchandise retail store, is planning to open two stores in Nigeria soon. Nigeria's Ambassador to the United States, Prof. Ade Adefuye, told the Empowered Newswire on Wednesday that representatives from the famous retail store had visited him at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC as regards the plan to open the retail store in Nigeria.
"It is an indication of the growing confidence in Nigeria's economy," Adefuye stated, adding that he was currently engaging with the leading US store on the conditions and requirements that would have to be met to do business in Nigeria.
WalMart currently employs about 2.1million employees and the CNN ranked it as the biggest global company last year, saying that, despite the global recession, the discount retailer's bargain prices continued to lure consumers worldwide.
The company's plan to open stores in Nigeria is part of the strategy of its leadership team, led by its new President/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Michael Duke.
At the company's AGM last year, Duke was reported as saying that global markets were "becoming an even bigger and more important part of our company." - Punch

'Planking' death puts spotlight on bizarre Web craze
Apparently lying face down is all it takes to create an Internet phenomenon.
An obscure activity called "planking" is garnering international exposure after an Australian man fell to his death last week while attempting to take part in the online fad.
Planking takes its name from how players mimic a wooden board by lying rigid -- preferably in a public place or on an unusual spot, such as a washing machine, a sign or a railing. The point is to post a wacky planking photo online. But Acton Beale, the 20-year-old Aussie who fell seven stories while planking on a high-rise balcony, upped the ante to fatal consequences, police said.

Funmi Iyanda turns down being a presenter on CNN
She explains why "Surely, that would have taken my career backward. Why would I want to be a presenter on CNN when I make shows that CNN would happily commission and buy? I have been offered several shows to produce and host for a number of international platforms. Two are in development, both are continental and audacious. If CNN offered me my own Piers Morgan type of gig, then yes! You know what would be great? If I am able to do the same for a coalition of NTA, AIT and Channels.
Right now the policies and economies that are against it are daunting but time will tell."

Cadbury Ad Deemed Inoffensive
Last month Naomi Campbell pitched a fit after Cadbury Chocolates compared her to a chocolate bar in their ad campaign. Cadbury then apologized to her but the Advertising Standards Authority disagrees. A final report from the ASA determined the ad was, "likely to be understood to refer to Naomi Campbell's reputation for 'diva-style' behavior rather than her race. On this basis the council decided that the ad was unlikely to be seen as racist or to cause serious or widespread offense."

Nigerian Football Federation Kicks Women Off Team For Being Lesbian
It seems the Nigerian Football Federation have been conducting a witch-hunt to find lesbians in the national team and ban them from playing in the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup which kicks off tomorrow June 26 in Germany. The team's coach recently bragged to the New York Times that she has dealt with 'The big problem' of lesbianism in her team.
Please what has lesbianism got to do with playing football? And what is the big problem there? I hope FIFA reacts to this fast.. Come on it's like telling me all male professional models are straight people....

Don Jazzy Explains How D'Banj Sealed the Deal With Kanye West
In an exclusive interview with Encomium Magazine, Don Jazzy revealed the way that D'Banj scored the chance meeting with Kanye West to led to their signing with G.O.O.D. Music. He said:-
Sometime in November last year, D'Banj and the crew went for a wedding that had a lot of celebrities and artists in Dubai. And when they finished performing, they were set to come back to Lagos. At the airport, D'Banj was mistaken for Kanye West because of his dressing and swagger, especially the taxi drivers who were displaying their placards with different inscriptions indicating their love and support for Kanye. They rushed at D'Banj and shouted Mr. Kanye West, we love your music. He however made them realise he was not Kanye but a singer from Nigeria. After the drama, D'Banj sensed that Kanye West was being expected at the airport which explained why the drivers were waiting for his arrival, so they decided to wait to see if they could talk to him.
When Kanye arrived, a member of D'Banj's entourage, Mr. Bankole approached Kanye West in a very respectful manner and introduced himself as D'Banj's manager, one of the greatest artists in Africa and Kanye was willing to listen to what they had to say. D'Banj introduced himself and showered accolades on Kanye West. He played him some of his songs on ipad and told him he just finished an international collaboration with Snoop Dogg.
After listening to the songs, Kanye was amazed that the songs were coming from Africa. Kanye asked for the producer of the songs and D'Banj told him it was Don Jazzy but Don Jazzy wasn't there with them in Dubai. Kanye asked D'Banj when he would be coming to the US and D'Banj told him we would be coming to shoot the video with Snoop. Kanye then told D'Banj to meet him in New York before the video shoot. The day we went to New York, we called his manager because Kanye does not use a phone and we met in Wyclef's studio called Platinum in NY around 6pm. We played Kanye more songs and he was really impressed. He proposed to buy us into his record label G.O.O.D Music but told us he would discuss with his management team and get back to us. After six months, we got the news on June 9 that myself and D'Banj have been signed.

TOMORROW IS THE BUSIEST DAY OF THE WEEK
"You pile up enouch tomorrows, and you'll find you've collected a lot of empty yesterdays" -Harrold Hill
Some thought yesterday, that today was a distant futu-e until it came knocking at the door. The day after today is not the best time to plan for your tomorrow. If you have a well to dig now, don't postpone it. If you have a hill to move, do not delay if for another day. Tomorrow has its own full contents. It provides no space for yesterday's leftovers.
A Scottish proverb says " What may be done someday will be done no day". There are seven days in a week and someday is not one of them. If you desire to accomplish your dream then you will need to schedule real specific days and times for when you are going to work on them; this will greatly help in bringing your dream into fulfilment.

Motivation by Tunde Adebo
You must resolve not to be discouraged even when things are going tough.. Many have thrown in the towel – they gave up at the most painful time in their pursuit of destiny forgetting that travail preceeds triumph and that without pain their is no pleasure.
Thomas Edison said and I quote, "Many of life's failures are peolpe who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up." So, don't quit.
You are close to your goal. It is always too early to quit. Ross Perot, the American Billonaire and one time independent presidential candidate once said " Most people give up just when they are about to achieve success. They quit on the one yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game one foot from a winning touchdown". In the end the pain of quitting is more than the price of moving forward while the pain lasts.
Dr Robert Gilbert gave the story of a group of skiers, who camped on a skiing site, and went all at once to ski. John, one of the skiers, wanted to try a steep slope so he asked the group, " Does anyone want to ski down the slope?" The entire group refused; but fearless as he was, John went down the slope on his own.
An hour later as he skied, he fell through a crack and wounded his arm. His blood froze around his arm. He needed to get back. So he walked when he couldn't ski, and crawled when he couldn't walk.
Every move forward was painful. He wanted to give up. But he kept at it. After seventeen miles of painful crawling, he gave up. His body froze and, minutes later, he died. Next day, the storm had passed. Skiers woke up and one step from the camp they found a body. It was John's.
Stick to the fight even when the going gets tough. At times, one more move is what makes the difference between success and failure. Believe and you see the glory of God. If you think you can, then you can.
William Shakespeare said " Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we often might win, by fearing to attempt". Everything in life is hard before it becomes easy. Yet life will remain hard if we fail to move beyond the rough beginning. Until you plough your field you don't plant your seed. Don't be afraid of tough beginning. It's only the initial impression.
Napoleon Hill once said " Effort only fully releases its reward after a person refuses to quit" It is when things get tough and you don't quit that success come. In the book Inspire the sleeping giant within, a story was told of a man that met a guru on the road. The man asks the guru " Which way is success? The bearded sage speaks not but points to a distant direction. The man thrilled by the prospect of quick and easy success, rushes in the direction the man pointed to. Suddenly, there comes a loud " Splat!!!" Eventually, the man limps back, tattered and stunned, assumming he must have misinterpreted the message. He repeats the question to the guru, who again points silently in the same direction. The man obediently walks off once more. This time the splat is deafening, and when the man crawls back, he was bloody, broken, tattered, and irate. " I asked you which way is success" he screamed at the guru. " I followed the direction you indicated, and all I got was splatted! . No more of this pointing thing. Talk!"
Then the guru spoke and said " Success is that way. just a little after the splat."

Motivation by Tunde Adebo: GRAVITY- Spit up and eventually the spit will end up on your head.
I once read about a story of a king who hired a carpenter to build houses for his subjects. The man's work pleased both the king and those who lived in the houses. Therefore the carpenter soon become wealthy from the king's generous fees.
One day , the carpenter reasoned," The king is paying me handsomely, yet I am the only one who knows the quality of the materials I use and the extra effort I take. From now on, I'll make the outside of the houses beautiful, but on the inside, I'll use materials that don't cost as much."
The Carpenter did exactly what he planed and as he had anticipated, nobody knew that he was cutting corners and he became even more wealthy.
Sometimes later, the king asked the carpenter to build the finest house he had ever built. " Spare no expenses." The king said. This man was very happy because of the prospect of making more money. He used low- quality materials and sloppy workmanship. When he was finished, the king paid him for a first-rate job, and then said, "And now I give this house to you as a gift for all you have done."
After some days, the carpenter fell from the horse and broke his back. So, he could no longer practice his profession again. He later exausted all his money and had to depend on the rent from the house given to him by the king as a gift.
About ten years later when the man was sixty-eight years old, a strong wind blew, followed by a very heavy rain. Many buildings collapsed and the carpenter's house was not spared. His wife and youngest daughter did not come out of the building alive.
The king and his subjects attributed this calamity to "the anger of the gods". They were not totally right since they did not know the gods. It was only the carpenter that was absolutely right. He knew the cause. He was the god! He later died in misery, poverty and regret a year later.
Think of yourself as the carpenter. Each action you take in a nail hammered, a board placed, or a wall erected ,constructs your future home. Your action today will either make or mar your future.
Build wisely. It is the only life you will ever build. Your life today is the result of attitudes and choices in the past. Your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and choices you make today.
Sometimes when you throw stones at others you injure yourself. A Yoruba proverb admonishes us not to throw stone into the market for some relative may be hit ( Yoruba is a language spoken in Western Nigeria).
We must learn to do other people's work the very way we would want ours done. We make happen to ourself what we make happen to others.
What goes around not only comes around, but also stays around. Spit up and eventually the spit will end up on your head.
